How High Should a Chandelier Hang Above a Dining Table?

The positioning of your chandelier will depend on several factors, including its location, placement, and size. Ideally, it should be positioned close enough to the floor to be appreciated, yet high enough to avoid interfering with your activities. For dining rooms, you’ll find that the ideal height for your chandelier will be around 30 to 36 inches above the surface of the dining table, measuring from the bottom of the fixture. 

If your ceiling is higher and you want to achieve a proportional look, make sure to add 3 inches for every additional foot of ceiling height over 8 feet. Doing so will ensure that you have balanced lighting throughout the room and prevent the fixture from obstructing your views or being overly distracting.
