Pendants are more than just light fixtures for your home, but rather a versatile and stylish lighting solution that enhances the functionality and atmosphere of your home. Whether you use them as a statement piece in your dining room or need a bit more lighting over your kitchen island, these fixtures have quickly become a staple in modern design. They provide the perfect balance of form and function while still being able to blend in with your existing decor. At Casagear we offer a wide range of pendants to suit every style, from sleek fixtures to rustic options, explore our collection and find the right one for you.
Choosing The Perfect Pendant
Create the perfect home lighting setup with our quality collection of light fixtures. Follow the tips below to help you achieve the ambient lighting setup of your dreams.
Purpose & Placement
Consider the purpose and placement of your lighting fixtures with respect to your home. Will your pendant be used for task lighting, ambient light, or just some aesthetic accent lighting? Depending on which of them you choose, will dictate the type of fixture you choose and how you will place it around the house. A fixture meant for task lighting will be more focused and provide light to a distinct area in your home while accent lighting may be more for decor purposes.
Size & Scale
Choose a light fixture that is proportional to your space and furniture. Consider how much space you have in your home to work with and figure out if it is a rational choice. Pendants often require ample ceiling space to be functional. Consider the height of your ceilings and the area you plan to install them.
Hardwired Vs Plug-In
Decide whether you will be installing a hardwired or plug-in option. Plug-in pendants provide flexibility and the ability to move them around. They are great for those who don’t want to commit to a permanent fixture or renters who only need their decor installed for the time being. Hardwired fixtures provide a clean permanent look and are installed directly to your electrical system.
Types of Pendants
After considering the factors that will determine the type of ambient lighting you pick, begin to explore your options. With so many options at Casagear, it may be a bit intimidating. Here we will be breaking down some of the most common styles you will find.
Single
If you are looking for something simple, clean, and gets the job done, check out single pendant lights. These fixtures provide focused lighting for any space, ideal for a minimalist and modern look. Their sleek profile helps them blend into your lighting setup seamlessly as they work well in entryways, reading nooks, and also as a bathroom pendant. They can be installed alone, or they can be grouped in a sequence for a dramatic effect too.
Round/Drum
Create an elegant atmosphere in your home by adding a drum/round pendant to your space. Known for their timeless design, these fixtures are often made from a combination of fabric, glass, or metal and are suitable for both casual and formal spaces. Because of their distinct round shade design, they will typically emit soft, diffused light which reduces glare while still providing sufficient illumination. They can scale well in different room sizes as well.
Lantern
With an open frame design that truly mimics the classic look of a traditional lantern, lantern pendants have become a popular option among rustic and farmhouse designs. Their timeless vintage appeal adds warmth and character to any interior space from foyers to common spaces. They are available in wood, metal, and glass finishes which can make a grand statement in your room of choice.
Linear
If you are looking for a pendant that is designed to illuminate larger surfaces, check out a linear pendant. Their long and narrow design is perfect for task lighting and evenly distributes lights across long surfaces. This design is often associated with some variations of kitchen pendants because of their long design built to accommodate kitchen islands. They work great in combination with other sources of recessed lighting and ambient lighting.
How High Should I Hang a Pendant?
Generally, for kitchen counters and islands, you should install the fixture between 30 and 36 inches above the counter surface. For dining tables, hang the fixture between 28 and 34 inches above the table for optimal lighting. As for hallways and foyers, aim to install the pendant at least 7 feet from the floor for proper clearance.
What Size Should I Choose?
Choosing the right size pendant is crucial to getting a proportional fit in your space, so consider the room you have to work with before choosing your size. For small spaces, pick a fixture with a diameter between 10 and 14 inches to avoid it being too large. For dining tables and kitchen, use a fixture that is ⅓ to ⅔ the width of the table or counter surface. If you have a large space that you want to furnish, a large, bold pendant or multiple small pendant can work, just depends on the feel you want to go for.
